“All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name” was written by Edward Perronet, a humble man of the eighteenth century who never envisioned the global reach and influence his anonymously published work would have.

All Hail the Power was the very first Hymncharts arrangement I created back in 2002! Now, 24 years later (!!) I’ve create an entirely new, more modern-worship version. I’ve recorded it in G major with a male vocalist, but F major is really the melodic range sweet spot for a typical congregation (especially if you use my worship choir parts.)

Interestingly, even though my 2026 version is two BPM faster than my 2002 version, it feels midtempo.

• 2002 version: 116 BPM, snare on beats 2 and 4. The repeated backbeat keeps pushing the music forward, so it feels energetic and genuinely uptempo.
• 2026 version: 118 BPM, snare primarily on beat 3. That’s a half-time feel. Although the click is 118, the groove’s perceived pulse is closer to 59 BPM. The congretgation experiences broader, heavier beats rather than constant forward pumping.

I’d call All Hail the Power 2026 “anthemic!”

2. Change to a strong 2-and-4 backbeat so the set suddenly feels more energetic.

Great Things (Phil Wickham): All Hail the Power establishes who Jesus is: the reigning King. Great Things celebrates what that King has accomplished.

This Is Amazing Grace (Phil Wickham): The theological connection is strong. Both songs describe the King above all kings, Christ’s power and glory, His reign over the nations, the Lamb who was slain, the victorious King who conquered the grave, and the proper response of worship.

I Know a Name (Elevation Worship): The hymn begins with the power of Jesus’ name. I Know a Name develops exactly that idea: the saving name of Jesus, the King’s authority over death, the resurrection and Christ reigning in power.

Shorten the Arrangement

I’ve recorded All Hail the Power with all four verses but it doesn’t need to be that long – try cutting a verse (perhaps verse 2 “Ye chosen seed…”)
