The year of 1874 saw the creation of “Christ Arose,” and in a rather simplistic way. It was spring, near Easter Sunday, and Pastor Robert Lowry was reading the account of Jesus’ death and resurrection. He had read it a hundred times before, yet something about this time opened his eyes to the significance of the event. He took out pen and paper, and thus one of Easter’s greatest hymns was born.

02.05.17 This arrangement was updated with new vocal & instrumental parts, and remixed and recorded with SATB vocals.I don't think I've ever agonized more over a hymn arrangement!
First of all, this is one tough hymn to arrange. The chord structure is such that it's hard to get a contemporary feel from it. I spent alot of time experimenting with different chord substitutions and patterns.
Second of all, it has such a wide melodic range I was worried I wouldn't find the right person to do the demo! At the time I was working at a church that had a praise choir and a girl named Tara started visiting choir rehearsals. She was new in the area and had been one of the lead roles in the Broadway revival of "Fame" when she lived in New York City. An answer to my prayers - she did a great job on the demo!
Update 2013: Tara eventually moved to Atlanta and was seen on the reality show "X-Factor."
