“Silent Night” is a staple of the Christmas season. It was written by Joseph Mohr, a young priest who was moved one wintery night by two things: a play about the birth of Jesus, and a serene, snowy village scene in Oberndorf, Germany. Two hundred years later, the song still carries the serenity of that night each time it is sung.
